Last winter, men, women and children made their way to the Soup Van from nearby apartment buildings where volunteers were waiting to give away food and clothing. Everyone left with a nutritious meal and perhaps a warm blanket, hats, mittens or socks. The Soup Van serves the homeless, elderly, disabled and working poor during the winter months when it is particularly hard for some of these people to get to the Food Pantry. Each week, volunteers take the truck van to various locations around Lawrence where people do not have walking access to state or city services. This is often the only meal of the day for many of the people who stop by the van, which is what makes this service so vital.
